Lower Cook Inlet Salmon Fishery News Release #13

This announcement supersedes the Outer District portion of Announcement #12 released on July 9.

OUTER DISTRICT: Beginning on Monday, July 13, the following areas will open on a schedule of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 16-hour fishing periods beginning at 6:00 AM on those days,

-waters of the Dogfish Bay Subdistrict excluding the Dogfish Bay lagoon,

-waters of the Rocky Bay Subdistrict with anadromous waters closures suspended at the Picnic Harbor mouth stream located at 59° 15.52’N. lat., 151° 24.850’ W. long.

-waters of the Nuka Island Subdistrict in the Petrof area north and west of a point at 59° 20.00’ N. lat., 150° 48.00’ W. long. and east of 150° 50.30’ W. long.

The waters of Port Dick Head End Section and Port Dick Middle Creek Section will open for 16-hour fishing periods from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Monday July 13, Tuesday July 14 and Wednesday July 15. The regulatory closed waters line specified in 5AAC 21.350(f)(8) is suspended and replaced by a line at 151° 17.8’ West longitude for these three fishing periods only. Commercial fishing is prohibited west of this line. Other sections in the Port Dick area remain CLOSED. These closed areas include the Taylor Bay Section, the Port Dick Island Creek Section, and the Port Dick Outer Section.

A ground survey conducted on July 9 of Port Dick Head End Creek counted 3,632 chum salmon. This is within the final SEG range of 1,900 – 4,450 for this system and species.

The next scheduled salmon fisheries announcement is anticipated to be on Friday, July 17.
