Kenai River Jr. Classic
Some young Alaskans have never had the opportunity to go fishing, and that's what the Jr. Classic is all about. Each August, kids between the ages of eight and 16 are invited to fish with a professional guide on the Kenai River during the Jr. Classic. Participating youth earn their seat on a boat by participating in a day of fun activities that includes boating safety instruction and workshops on salmon, river ecology and stewardship relevant to the Kenai River, courtesy of the Alaska Department of Fish & Game, the Alaska Center for Coastal Studies, the Alaska Islands and Oceans Visitor Center, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Alaska Office of Boating Safety.
More than 30 Alaska and national companies sponsor boats, donate prizes and provide transportation and other in-kind contributions to make the Jr. Classic possible. KRSA works with the military families throughout the State of Alaska, Ehmann Outdoors in Wasilla, and local Boy & Girl Scouts to find youth who will benefit the most from a day on the river.
